Troubleshooting declined payment.

If you receive a “Payment declined” error in Google Play on your device, you’ll need to update your payment information on that order or use a different, valid payment method to complete your purchase. 

 

1. If you'd like to cancel your order and try again with another valid payment method already on file.

To use another payment method that you already have entered in Google Wallet:

  • Navigate to the details page of the app in question from the Google Play app on your device.
  • Then, select the “Refund” button to cancel your pending order and try again using a different payment method.
2. If you need edit or update the card's expiration date or CVC/CVV code.
  • Sign in to your Google Wallet account (wallet.google.com/manage) from a computer, not from a tablet or phone.
  • Click “Payment methods” then “Edit” to edit the information for the card that was declined.
  • As soon as you press “Save,” we’ll automatically re-attempt the declined purchase.
 
3. If your card is valid but was declined by your financial institution.
  • Contact your card-issuing bank to make sure the reason for decline is resolved.
  • After the card is ready to be used again, delete the card from your Google Wallet account by visiting wallet.google.com/manage from a computer, clicking “Payment methods” on the left side, then “Delete” next to the card in question.
  • Then, re-add the card by clicking “Payment methods” and “New card.”
  • Once the payment method is re-added, your declined purchase will automatically be retried.
 
4. If your declined card is invalid and you'd like to use a completely new payment method for the purchase.
  • Visit your Google Wallet account (wallet.google.com/manage) from a computer.
  • Click “Payment methods” on the left side of the page.
  • Click “New Card,” and add a new payment method.
  • Once the new payment method has been added, your declined purchase will automatically be retried.
 
5. If your declined card is invalid and you'd like to use a payment method already on file for the purchase.
 
    If you want to use a different payment method already stored in your Google Wallet account to complete the purchase in question, you’ll need to delete that card information and re-add it for the declined purchase to be automatically re-attempted:
  • Visit your Google Wallet account (wallet.google.com/manage) from a computer.
  • Click “Payment methods” on the left side of the page.
  • Select the card you’d like to use that’s already on file and click “Delete.”
  • Then, click “New card,” and re-add the payment method you want to use.
  • Once the payment method has been re-added, we’ll automatically attempt to charge the declined purchase again.
